Scarce officers 1881-1902 black leather cross-belt still retaining the silvered cross-belt plate and chained whistle with guard. The plate bears the Mullet and strung bugle horn above the title scroll within a wreath of thistle surmounted by a guelphic crown complete with backing plate and four screw posts with nuts to the reverse. The Guard consists of a dragon upon a ray of 13 thistle leaves with two screw bolts to the reverse linked to the whistle by a three strand chain. [ One nut Absent ] The Whistle bears the double headed sphinx whilst the body displays the sphinx above acanthus leaves both bearing Birmingham hallmarks for " J & Co. " 1881.
